This project was a 1 week-GameJam themed around the Power of Youth. My team got assigned a game pitch about a nuclear apocalypse and kids fighting to gather ingredients for a vaccine.We decided to make a tactical turn based game inspired by Into The Breach.
The game was intended to be abled to be played by kids, so we did our best to keep the design simple.
Since tactical games need to have a very clear way of displaying information, I took advantage of the square shape of our levels to display information about the player and enemy units on the sides of the screen. Additional information is displayed on the bottom of the screen depending on the focus of the mouse.
I chose to stay very simple when creating the different windows shapes to let the player focus on information rather than aesthetics.
Integration was a challenge because of the lack of time and we had to compromise on a few graphic elements, but the main feel and functionalities were preserved. If anything, I would have loved to be able to integrate the mockup myself.
